Want more young customers? 3 ways to connect with them now

Millennials will buy more than ever for one good reason: They’re in the workforce, making more money and buying decisions. So how can you connect with them (and their wallets)?

Get more active in social media.

According to a recent survey by YEC and UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School:

  • 66% of millennials would look up a store after hearing their friend checked it out
  • 43% have liked more than 20 brands on Facebook
  • 52% have more than 300 Facebook friends

So word-of-mouth online is a fast way to get attention from the growing number of millennials – whether they’re consumers or business people with decision-making power.

Here are four ways to get their attention in social media:

  • Ask for it. Easy enough – when you correspond via email or chat, close conversations by giving them a link to “like” your company on Facebook or follow you on Twitter.
  • Get them to spread the word. Once they’re your fan or follower, offer incentives to invite their friends and family to join you.
  • Make it worth their while. Post valuable content regularly in social media. Discounts and coupons alone won’t make them loyal customers. Tips on using your products or services better and ways to connect with customers who are like-minded will make them loyal.
