Two things you should never do at work

With all the things you have to do in the contact center, remember to never do these two: You can stay focused on customers, tasks at hand and advancing your career if you avoid:

  1. Inviting friends to work. Sounds obvious, but it happens more often than anyone realizes. Asking a friend to stop by at lunch is a big distraction. Inviting them into your office space is worse, says customer service guru Larry Williams. Limit social phone calls to breaks, and social visits to places off-site.
  2. Giving out personal information. You may share some personal information (a hobby or interest in a sports team) with customers, but you don’t want to give them home contact information, online social media invitations or the coffee house or neighborhood bar you frequent. Keep a distinct line between your work and personal life with customers.
