3 questions you should ask every new hire candidate

Hire right in your contact center and you can avoid problems with morale, productivity and turnover. These three questions can help you hire the best people.

Once you’re face-to-face with good job candidates, these questions will help figure out if they’re cut out to work closely with customers.

The questions come from Max Messmer, chairman and CEO of Robert Half International, an international staffing organization.

  • “What constitutes excellent customer service?” You’ll want to hear answers that focus on creating lasting relationships.
  • “How did you handle a difficult customer in the past?” Listen for what the candidate says defines “difficult.”
  • “What did and didn’t you like about past customer-service oriented responsibilities?” You’ll want to hear about senses of accomplishment for making difficult situations work or happiness for helping others achieve what they needed to. You don’t want candidates who harp on the difficulties of dealing with people.
