Some people come up with better excuses for being late than others. Either way, nearly everyone has done it.
In fact, 15% of employees say they are late at least once a week, a CareerBuilder.com survey found. Their top reasons:
- Gridlock traffic (32%)
- Lack of sleep (17%)
- Childcare issues (7%)
Fortunately, many managers understand these excuses. Almost 45% won’t even hold tardiness against employees as long as deadlines are met.
But they draw the line at these excuses. They were actually used in some workplaces, according to CNNLiving.
- While rowing across the river to work, I got lost in the fog.
- Someone stole all my daffodils.
- I had to go audition for American Idol.
- My ex-husband stole my car so I couldn’t drive to work.
- My route to work was shut down by a Presidential motorcade.
- I have transient amnesia and couldn’t remember my job.
- I was indicted for securities fraud this morning.
- The line was too long at Starbucks.
- I was trying to get my gun back from the police.
- I didn’t have money for gas because all of the pawn shops were closed.
