Morale is down, but it doesn’t take cash to bring it up again.
Unfortunately, McKinsey Quarterly researchers found employees aren’t as motivated as they once were (namely, as they were before the recession).
But researchers also found that three non-cash efforts to motivate are no less, or no more, effective than money.
In other words, everyday personal perks can do the same job as a bigger paycheck. Forbes blogger Lisa Quast suggest these three:
- Praise from the immediate boss. Take the time to praise something about several agents each day.
- Attention from leadership. Schedule one-on-one conversations quarterly to talk about performance, training opportunities and personal interests.
- Opportunities to lead projects or group. Delegate as much as you can.
