Send email without flaw

Email is about the fastest way to communicate with customers these days – and because of that speed it’s often riddled with embarrassing errors. Here’s how to avoid them.

Catch errors before they meet customers’ eyes with these tips from communications expert Barbara Pachter:

  • Hold the address. Prevent a premature distribution by adding the recipient’s address at the end – after you’ve proofread the message.
  • Read slowly aloud. This practice will stop your brain from automatically correcting errors (especially skipped words).
  • Expect an error. Keep reading until you find one. It’s in there somewhere!
  • Bring in help. For especially important messages, ask another agent to give the message a second look.
