Four ways to pep up your telephone voice

You know how they say the camera adds 10 pounds to you? The phone’s much the same – it adds 10 pounds of apathy to your voice. Here’s how to put pep back in it:

Try one of these four techniques to keep your voice lively when talking to customers:

  • Take deep breaths when you speak. It adds oxygen to make your voice richer.
  • Talk like a radio announcer. They don’t let their voices trail off at the end of sentences.
  • Pause frequently. It lets you recharge your voice and gives customers a chance to jump in with questions.
  • Emphasize key words. Extra volume will let customers know it’s an important point.
